  18. <p>     "I thought of her as Marilyn Monroe with a touch of Lucille
  19. Ball--a gum-snapping sex bunny." That's Laura Dern, 23,
  20. discussing Lula Pace Fortune, the role she plays in David
  21. Lynch's latest reality bender, Wild at Heart. Best known for
  22. her portrayals of innocent adolescents in Mask and Blue Velvet,
  23. Dern had little trouble adjusting to Lula's reckless eroticism.
  24. In fact, she found the part instructive. "The archetypes of
  25. women are the madonna and the whore. We're all like that, but
  26. we repress one side or the other," she said. "I got to know
  27. myself better on this film."
